Generally, the dental implant process requires several appointments at our Hoboken office which are spread over six to eight months. The time for this process varies depending on the healing speed of the patient.
The implant process is started when a titanium dental implant, which will serve as your replacement tooth root, is implanted on the first visit to our Hoboken implant dentistry office. The implant is placed in the socket of the missing tooth. You are either given local or generalized anesthesia and will feel very little pain during the recovery. It usually takes between three to six months for the jawbone to fuse with the dental implant, making it a fully functional tooth root. This process is called osseointegration.
Once the dental implant is secure in your jaw, an abutment is added to anchor the artificial tooth to the newly secured prosthetic root.
During the healing process, you will usually be given dentures to wear. Dr. Frank may also give you a retainer with a tooth attached, called a flipper, to wear during this time.
A mold of your bite is taken to create a dental crown that will serve as your replacement tooth. Dr. Frank will work with you to ensure that your artificial tooth meets your needs.
In the final visit, the artificial tooth is placed. This visit is typically very brief.
