Chronic, migraine-like headaches are the most common symptom of the painful jaw alignment problem known as temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ or TMD).
Although these intense headaches are typical of TMJ/TMD, most people who suffer from this condition experience multiple symptoms. Because many TMJ/TMD symptoms are shared by other health problems including arthritis and sinus ailments, temporomandibular joint disorder can be difficult to diagnose for those who lack training in the specialized field of neuromuscular dentistry.
The Hoboken, New Jersey, neuromuscular dentists at Frank R. DePaola DDS & Associates have extensive experience in the successful assessment and treatment of TMJ/TMD. We may be able to help you if you suffer from regular headaches and other TMJ/TMD symptoms including:
- Face, neck, shoulder and back pain
- Jaw sticking or locking
- Jaw clicking or popping
- Limited jaw mobility
- Difficulty biting, chewing, swallowing and speaking
- Facial swelling
- Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
If not treated, the symptoms of TMJ/TMD can become progressively worse and eventually contribute to oral health problems such as premature teeth wear and periodontal disease.
If you suffer from symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder and would like to learn more about your treatment options, please contact Frank R. DePaola DDS & Associates to schedule your personal consultation. We welcome patients from the Hoboken, Jersey City and Newark, New Jersey, areas.
