Gum disease is not something that should be ignored. Also commonly referred to as periodontal disease, this is a condition that is serious and can eventually lead to tooth loss if not treated. There are two stages of gum disease, and it’s important to catch the condition while it’s in its earliest stage so it can be stopped and the damage it has caused can be reversed.

Gum disease is usually detected by Dr. Frank during your regular dental checkups. If you haven’t visited our Hoboken office for a checkup recently, it’s important to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. Failure to detect issues such as gum disease in their early stages can result in much more costly and extensive treatments.

The two stages of gum disease are:

  • Stage 1: The first stage of gum disease is called Gingivitis. During this stage, your gums are inflamed and might bleed.
  • Stage 2: The second stage of gum disease is called Periodontitis. During this stage, your gums are irreversibly damaged. When periodontitis becomes advanced, your gums may lose their ability to hold your teeth in place, and your might experience tooth loss.

If you have gum disease, Dr. Frank will be able to determine the appropriate course of action to treat and hopefully reverse its progression.
