Why dental implants?

We can substantially improve your quality of life by replacing your dentures or full or partial plate with replacement teeth. Not only do implants look, feel and function like your natural teeth, but they also strengthen the underlying bone support. Being that the resorption that occurs under a denture or removable bridge is what contributes most to the aging facial appearance of denture wearers, implants can make you look and feel younger.

With today’s technology, no one needs to suffer with the embarrassment of denture adhesives, the instability of teeth that move or the adverse health consequences of inefficient chewing. Properly planned, the transition from a full or partial denture to a fully implant-supported permanent restoration can be seamless. Since there is no need for you to be without your denture at any time throughout the process, even a spouse has no reason to know of the change. With dental implants, you can chew normally and care for your tooth or teeth in the same way you do for your natural teeth.

How do dental implants work?

Dental implants function as a permanent replacement for your tooth root. When used to replace a single tooth, a ceramic crown is attached to the implant, acting as your own tooth. If you need to replace a group of teeth—or even all of your teeth—dental implants support and serve as an anchor to your denture or partial denture. The implant itself is a titanium screw that Dr. Jessica Logan will surgically place into your jaw bone, replacing the root of your tooth. Titanium is very strong and biocompatible. The implant fuses with your jaw bone, making it stable and permanent, just like a natural tooth.
Your artificial tooth will be custom crafted to look just like your natural tooth, or better, and to match up perfectly with the opposing tooth. It will be made from dental porcelain, which interacts with light in the same way as natural tooth enamel, so it looks like a real tooth and blends in with surrounding teeth.

Advantages of Dental Implants

Dental implants have many advantages over other tooth replacement options. The fact that they are permanently fixed in place means that:
They do not move or slip when you chew or speak
They are comfortable and do not cause pain
Food cannot get underneath them
You do not remove them for cleaning
They can never get lost
You will not need to be refitted and replace them over time like dentures and partials
Anchoring a partial to dental implants avoids relying on the surrounding teeth for support, so it does not create the risk of damaging your teeth. Since the implant replaces the tooth root, you do not experience the bone loss and shrinkage that causes facial collapse and premature aging.

Why The Practice at Maxwell Place?

Dr. Jessica Logan has trained extensively with Dr. Carl Misch at the Misch International Implant Institute in Orlando, Florida, which is recognized as the premier implant training center in the country. She has also achieved fellowship status in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (FICOI) and is a Misch Implant Fellow (FMIII). We also utilize iCat CBCT 3D imaging to virtually place your implant(s) to minimize risk and improve predictability.

To learn more about how dental implants can improve your quality of life and health, please contact us at The Practice at Maxwell Place today. Scheduling your complimentary consultation with Dr. Jessica Logan is the first step to looking and feeling better.

Q: What is Epigenetic Orthodontics?
A: Epigenetic orthodontics uses a person?s natural genes to correct and straighten the teeth without the use of force brackets.

Q: Are genes involved in the treatments in any way?
A: Yes,in the sense that the human genome is implicated during orthodontic/orthopedic/pneumopedic™ (non-surgical airway remodeling™) airway treatments, and that certain devices or appliances, such as the (Daytime-Nighttime Appliance™ DNA appliance™) can upregulate or modulate gene expression during orthodontic/orthopedic/pneumopedic™ (non-surgical airway remodeling™)airway treatments. However, no artificial genes or gene-transfer is used at all. Only the patient’s naturally-occurring genes are implicated in Dr Singh’s Epigenetic orthodontic concept. In other words, new, orthodontic/orthopedic/pneumopedic™devices or DNA appliances™ are involved in a system that has been specially-designed by Dr Singh to bioengineer craniofacial, dental, and airway structures so that natural developmental processes are evoked by Dr Singh’s orthodontic/orthopedic/pneumopedic™ devices or DNA appliances™ to enhance the teeth, jaws, TMJ, face and airway into more optimal relations for functions, such as sleep and breathing.

Q: How does Epigenetic Orthodontics work?
A: Dr Singh believes that by changing the spatial relations of crooked teeth, using a new generation of orthodontic-orthopedic-pneumopedic™ DNA appliances™ , which can be worn similar to removable orthodontic retainers, the various genes that control tooth position will be activated so that orthodontists and dentists can enhance dental and oral health, including non-surgical airway remodeling™ . Some evidence for these ideas is already available in the dental, orthodontic and medical literature. These new DNA appliances™ rely less on the continuous force exerted by conventional orthodontic braces, but help to guide the teeth, jaws, TMJ, face and airway into more optimal relations for functions, such as sleep and breathing. Specifically, these new DNA appliances™ consist of 3-D Axial springs™ that are specially made from Do-Not-Adjust wire™ or DNA wire™ which, as its name suggests, requires virtually little or no adjustment by the dental professional.

Q: What does Epigenetic Orthodontics mean?
A: Epigenetic orthodontics means that various human genes or combinations of the patient’s naturally-inherited genes are harnessed in combination or independently with various orthodontic/orthopedic/pneumopedic™ devices or DNA appliances™ to modify, change or attenuate the physical location of natural teeth, jaws and airway in 3-D space during orthodontic/orthopedic/pneumopedic™ treatments, based on the concept of ‘temporo-spatial patterning.’ The term “temporo-spatial patterning” like Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) implies that the spatial organization of the teeth, jaws and airway can be mapped in 3-D space at known anatomical locations using x, y, z coordinates. The pattern in 3-D space of craniofacial structures are encoded within the patient’s genome. Dr Singh believes that DNA appliances™ are capable of modulating genetic pathways, which are effectively dormant or inactive, and are capable of restarting craniofacial development in adult patients as well as in children. In addition, abnormal patterning is corrected, in part, through the deployment of orthodontic/orthopedic/pneumopedic™ devices or DNA appliances™ , which may evoke natural developmental processes that improve a patient’s airway and thereby ameliorate or prevent airway issues such as snoring and other forms of sleep-disordered breathing through non-surgical airway remodeling™ .

Q: What makes Epigenetic Orthodontics different?
A: Traditionally, specially-trained orthodontists use fixed braces to apply forces to straighten crooked teeth. While many of these cases are initially treated successfully, few patients know that relapse can occur after treatment. Relapse means that a patient’s teeth will move back after treatment has been completed. The reasons for relapse are complex and remain incompletely understood. However, the entire human genome has now been sequenced, and we now know that certain genes are involved in moving teeth. Teeth are naturally-designed to move, for example, tooth eruption in a normally-growing child. In addition, the teeth in some people erupt in a specific arrangement, producing a beautiful smile. Dr Singh believes that the specific arrangement of teeth is due to certain genes. In fact, a natural process called ‘temporo-spatial patterning’ is at work. This process is the blueprint or body plan that is encoded by genes. In other words, the right and left sides of the body, the top and bottom of the body as well as the front and back of the entire body is under the control of a genetic body plan, including the teeth. Sometimes, however, the plan gets disturbed, producing crooked teeth, for example. The Daytime-Nighttime Appliance™ system uses DNA appliances™ to address these issues.

How to schedule anesthesia for dentistry:

Dr. Atlas, the dentist, and the patient decide if this treatment option is appropriate for the patient. A mutually convenient date and time is also chosen.

Naturally, preexisting medical conditions may affect the how anesthesia will effect the patient. Dr. Atlas works closely with any other physicians the patient may have to deliver “optimum anesthesia.”

Patients receive “conscious sedation” or “twilight sleep.” Patients have little, if any, recall of the dental procedure. All patients have been delighted with “waking up” and having their dental procedure over.
